Do minorities need to leave the academy to maximise impact? Lessons from an LGBTQ+ Historian
Show Notes

In this episode, we talk to Dr Eric Cervini about his book, The Deviant's War, his life in academia in the US and UK as well as why he is no longer in the academy. We discuss the lessons learnt from the book which charts the fight for gay rights in the US before Stonewall as well as exploring what this might mean for creating a more inclusive academy. The importance of understanding history and what this means for activism today and how it highlights who might be missing out or not included in our work is an important takeaway point from Eric's research.

The Deviant's War, published in Summer 2020, was featured in the New York Times bestsellers list and has received significant coverage in the media.
